Sipi Falls is one of those places that the tourists love but that for me is a slightly sad trip. It is a picture that bring thought of what it would have looked like back in the day when population explosion was not a problem. Now there is civilisation in every small corner and shambas right up to the waters edge so although it is beautiful it is crowded and with the crowding comes poverty and with poverty comes people trying to make a living. 50 kids wanting to be your guide for the day, everyone wanting to show you Elgon. It is not a place to go for peace and quiet.
However Sipi River Lodge is part owned by Will Clarke and he has done a fabulous job creating and oasis among the people. It is an old farm house converted to a lovely, homely lodge. Well worth a visit.
